The informal shelters of the Latin American barrios, of bricks and mud, timber and canvas, a throwback to the primitive building forms of ancient history, show that the development of society over the centuries does not automatically bring social progress.

That has to be fought for. That is a strange way to end a book on architecture. Thomas Malthus, the father of population studies. Because people had access to increasingly easy to obtain resources, which results ultimately in more food, there has been an explosion of the human population.
